On Thursday, October 13, 2016, Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, met with Cardinal Gerhard Müller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Bp. Fellay was accompanied by Father Alain-Marc Nély, 2nd Assistant General of the Society, since Father Niklaus Pfluger, 1st Assistant General, was prevented from participating.

Cardinal Müller was flanked by Abp. Luis Ladaria Ferrer, S.J., Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Abp. Guido Pozzo, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei.

Shortly before this meeting, the Superior General briefly greeted Pope Francis at the Casa Santa Marta.

Planned long ago, this meeting with the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith—which is the second, after the one on September 23, 2014—occurred within the framework of the relations that the Society of St. Pius X has always kept up with the Roman authorities, particularly in recent years by the doctrinal discussions that have taken place in the various seminaries of the Society, which will continue in the months to come.
